Brookfield Stories
Active Lunchtimes At Brookfield Sports College

active lunchtimes

This term a group of Year 11’ s along with the support of their PE teacher and SSCO planned and prepared a series of lunchtime sessions designed for the whole of Year 7 to get involved in.

The sessions included a ‘Ball Zone’, ‘Fun Zone’, Extreme Zone’ and’ Quiet Zone’ and the Year 7’s could choose which zone they would like to take part in. The Year 11’s were involved in the buying of the equipment which included a giant connect 4, giant snakes and ladders and lots of extreme sports equipment such as rocket ball and ultimate Frisbee.

The first two sessions of the scheme were a great success but unfortunately due to new building work for the new school the scheme has had to be temporarily halted. It will continue again as soon as a new space is organised. Well done to the Year 11’s for their enthusiasm and organisation of the project

Brookfields Young Ambassadors In Sport

young ambassadors

Stephanie Hall and Tom Hornby were selected to be Brookfields Young Ambassadors in Sport. In September they attended a conference with Miss Hamer, many other pupils and also 6 Olympic athletes. The conference helped them to look at how they were going to encourage more pupils to take part in Sport and leadership and volunteering.  With the approach of the 2012 Olympics their role is to look at different ways to help work towards being a  volunteer at the Olympics.
Since coming back to school they have been working hard on producing a Sports Newsletter for Brookfield and also raising the profile of our sports Clubs here at Brookfield.

They have been an asset to the school as our Young Ambassadors – well done!!!

Year 9 Primary Netball Festival Organisers

Netball Festival Organisers

Over the past 6 weeks half of our Year 9 girls have been involved on Friday mornings helping deliver Playleader training with Miss Hamer and Mr Lewis from All Saints. They have now successfully got all of the Primary schools trained as Playleaders.  This introductory training finished with Miss Hamers Year 9 BTEC class and the Brookfield Year 9 Netball team planning and organising a Primary Netball festival for five Primary schools.

The girls researched the rules, organised the fixtures and planned all the score sheets. They also trained with Miss Hamer as part of the umpiring team. The morning was a huge success and was ran totally by the pupils even down to umpiring the games.
At the end of the morning all the Primary school pupils were very excited to come to Brookfield in the future and enjoyed working with the Year 9 girls.
Well done girls – keep the fantastic leadership up!!!

YPlay Leader Training In Kirkby Primaries

Playleader Training

Over the past few months every primary school in Kirkby have sent 10 pupils to the Brookfield Ball Hall to be trained as Primary Play Leaders. Every school did fantastically well and they learnt important leadership skills such as communication, organisation and fair play.
Kevin Lewis and Nicky Hamer (SSCO’s) trained a cohort of Year nines to help lead the sessions and it was fantastic to see the Year 5 and 6 pupils looking up to their Year 9 role models.

The Primary Play Leaders will now go back to their schools and encourage pupils at lunchtimes to be active and take part in games and help develop core skills.
It is brilliant to see all the participation of the Primary schools in this scheme
